The Big Game
In January of 1967, the Green Bay Packers beat the Kansas City Chiefs 35-10 in the first ever AFL-NFL championship game. There were no celebrities in attendance, no week-long events leading up to kickoff, and a couple of local marching bands provided the halftime entertainment. Likely no one in attendance that day had any inkling of the type of spectacle the game would come to represent nearly 50 years later.
Today, the Super Bowl is a rare sports event that crosses nearly all viewing boundaries. Hardcore football fans get to watch the championship game of the season, while others come for the parties, the commercials (where advertisers spend millions for 30 seconds of air-time), and even the halftime shows (this year: Katy Perry). Some even want the day after the game to be declared a national holiday (which hasn’t come to fruition quite yet…my letters must not be reaching the right place!)
Simply put, the Super Bowl has morphed from a simple championship football game to a unique cultural experience.

Here are some books published recently that focus on different aspects of Super Bowl Sunday. Due to the popularity of the event (even when I didn’t even know what football was I still knew about the Super Bowl), these titles would likely be popular editions to any library collection…
